You are certainly able to wear whatever you feel best and most comfortable in, but I have found that more neutrals and minimal patterns go best with my particular style of photography, which is light, bright and airy.  I want you to wear exactly what you want but I also want to do my best at protecting your investment by making sure my photography style is best displayed and that you are also preserving your investment by creating timeless images.
